Yes, The Income Really Is Guaranteed — But Here’s Why Insurance companies know exactly how long people live on average. They have decades of mortality data, and that’s how they can promise lifetime income mathematically — not magically. That’s why so many pre-retirees and retirees are reaching out in a panic saying: “John, should I lock in an annuity before rates fall again?” In this video, I’ll break it down simply, show you how rate locks actually work, and explain when it does (and doesn’t) make sense to move quickly. Let’s break it down so you can decide for yourself. Short answer: Yes — but only under specific circumstances. And most retirees never experience those scenarios if they structure their annuity correctly. Variable annuities have sub-accounts that work like mutual funds. If the market drops, your account value drops with it — simple as that. This is why many people come to me saying they’re tired of losing money in their annuity. Usually, they’re in a variable annuity and don’t even know it. As the “Guaranteed Retirement Guy”, I don’t use variable annuities for my clients.
